Mastectomy products from Pink Ribbon Lingerie
Hi, my name is Camille, and with the help of my mum, Hilary, we set up Pink Ribbon Lingerie, a specialist lingerie, swimwear and sleepwear company, for women of all ages, following breast cancer surgery.
My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994: “Back then, there weren’t many pretty bras around for anyone over a size 38 (Bravissimo hadn’t launched) I was size 42 before my surgery and a size 48 when I`d had my mastectomy (and all I wanted to wear was pretty, feminine bras!) Back then, many bras were made of nylon, and only available in black, white and beige. Together with the silicone prosthesis, they would be uncomfortable (especially in the heat!) On top of that, customer service wasn’t great and on several occasions, I'd order my bra size, found it didn't fit properly and have to wait weeks for the new size to arrive! Things have improved greatly over the years and the internet has made thing easier, but it can still be difficult to find good mastectomy products!”
Because of my mum's negative shopping experience, I`d discovered that the lingerie options for someone who`s had a mastectomy, can be quite limited! Unless you`re internet savvy and have loads of time to surf the net looking for products, you may be unaware of what`s available. Ultimately, this can leave women post surgery, feeling frustrated and disappointed with the lack of choice! I decided I wanted to do something about it…
Helping women feel beautiful following breast cancer, is the reasons I decided to create Pink Ribbon Lingerie. That was seven years ago! I`d come up with the idea, concept and business plan but was unable to get funding! However, was determined not to give up, and knew that one day I`d try again.
Fast Forward 5 years to 2009: I decided to give it another go after reading an amazing book called "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho (which is about your life journey and not putting things off!) I was truly inspired, so that by the time I`d finished the book, I knew what I needed to do…
I took a year out, sourced products, found manufacturers and researched the market! My family and I then decided to fund the company ourselves. What’s unique about Pink Ribbon Lingerie, is that our products are sourced from around the world which saves customer’s international postage (and gives them wider choice!) All our products have been "tried and tested" for comfort and quality, by a team of breast cancer survivors (who are absolutely brilliant) and who product test for us before we decide stock anything!
We began with a small collection of lingerie, sleepwear and swimwear, which are now added to regularly, and have developed into ‘A One Stop Shop’ (stocking clothing and accessories!) Ultimately, we wanted Pink Ribbon Lingerie to be the perfect destination for women, post surgery.
In addition, we also wanted to give something back... so decided to donate 10% of all sales, to Breast Cancer related charities! We support: Against Breast Cancer; The Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline, and Breast Cancer Care. When anyone purchases from Pink Ribbon Lingerie, the nice thing is, the customer decides which of the three charities the 10% donation goes to :)
Helping my mum, and others in a similar situation, has been, and continues to be, at the heart of why I’m doing this. I couldn’t do something I’m not passionate about!
I hope you like what I`ve done so far with Pink Ribbon Lingerie, and if you wish to place an order, you can get free p&p (in the UK) by using the code: MNINC12/11
All the best
